A moment for tallow.

A moment for tallow.

Ohhh the fads that have transpired in my 30 years. Some good. Mostly bad.

So surely skincare based on tallow will be something we all regret. Smearing beef fat on our face. What are we thinking. (Maybe I need to take a course in sales). But hear me out. People have been doing this for centuries. Ancient egyptians have been thought to have put tallow on their face. How we know this is what they were doing is beyond me. That' his a question for someone else.

However, thanks to modern science we can see what makes tallow just so good, and why it is the perfect to smear head to toe.

The fatty acids that are so readily available in tallow resemble our skin. This means they are easily absorbed enabling your skin to lock in the moisture. Hydrating your skin from the cellular level.

Let's talk vitamins. These are the main insights you want to know, but is definitely not a comprehensive list.

Vitamin A: Queen of collagen production (yes please!) and cell turnover.

Vitamin D: Reduces inflammation and damage.

Vitamin E: Deeply moisturising and reduces oxidiatave stress in the skin cells.

Vitamin K: Has been found to reduce blemishes, dark pigmentation and appearance of scar tissue.

Vitamin B12: Assists in moisture retention.

It is important to note that not all tallow is created equal. We want tallow from healthy grass fed cows. Healthy cow = the best tallow. We also want a specific type of tallow. Regular tallow can be left for roasting potatoes, it has the beefy smell that you would expect to find with beef fat. We use the suet. This is specifically the fat from around the kidneys and has significantly less odour and is the perfect ingredient for our skincare.

So yes, tallow is having a moment and for good reason.  Whether you're purchasing from us, or getting creative in your kitchen to make your own. You should definitely get on the tallow trend. Your skin with thank you.
